Invisalign has transformed the way adults approach teeth straightening. Where once the only option was fixed metal braces — brackets, wires, and all — there is now a discreet, removable alternative that fits around adult life rather than demanding you rearrange it.
At Everwell Dental in Southam, Dr Jo Fraser offers Invisalign with a treatment experience built around proper clinical planning, thorough reviews, and a genuine commitment to getting the result right. This guide covers everything you need to know.
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligners to gradually move your teeth into the desired position. As Dr Fraser explains: “Invisalign is an almost invisible way of straightening and aligning your teeth through a series of clear aligners. Each aligner is just slightly different from the one before, and that allows us to put gentle forces on the teeth to just move them to where we want them to be until we get them positioned just right.”
The aligners are made from smooth, transparent plastic and fit snugly over your teeth. They are removable for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing — which means none of the dietary restrictions that come with fixed braces, and no awkward cleaning routine.
One common misconception about Invisalign is that it can only treat mild or simple cases. This is not accurate. Dr Fraser is clear on this point: “Most people are candidates for Invisalign. Sometimes it can have a bit of a reputation that complicated cases aren’t suitable, but actually the majority of cases can be treated with Invisalign. There may be a few that aren’t, but they are genuinely unusual.”
Invisalign is particularly popular with adults who want to improve the alignment of their teeth without the visual impact of fixed braces. It works well for crowding, spacing, and bite issues, and can be combined with composite bonding and whitening for a complete smile transformation.
Dr Fraser takes a careful, multi-stage approach to Invisalign that explains why the process looks so different from cheaper alternatives you may have seen advertised.
“The most important thing for me to begin with is understanding your problem and what you want to change. I can easily look at somebody’s mouth and say, well, that tooth’s a bit off. But if that’s not what you see, then it’s irrelevant. I need to understand what you want to change.”
Once you have decided you want to explore Invisalign, the next step is a full digital scan of your mouth. “You can see on the screen what you look like now, and we can use an outcome simulator to start to give you some ideas of what can be achieved. It’s really nice to start to see on the computer what the result could be.”
If you decide to proceed, detailed photographs and scan data are sent to Invisalign, who build a personalised 3D treatment plan called a ClinCheck. “Your ClinCheck is a computer-animated 3D model to say, this is what you look like now, and this is what we can get you to at the end. And this is how many aligners, or in other words, how many steps, it’s going to take to get you there.”
Dr Fraser is specific about this stage: “I always end up with a few ClinChecks. It’s never the first one that comes back that I’m happy with. We’re always going to spend a bit of time working on it until I get it exactly where I want it to be.” This is the kind of detail that separates a properly planned Invisalign case from a rushed one.
“You’ll come back to see me and we will, on the first day, add some little bumps to your teeth, which just help us with the movements. You’ll know what they all are beforehand, they won’t be a surprise. And we’ll get you going with your aligners and talk you through how to use them.”
“We’re then going to have review appointments every six weeks or so, but it will vary from person to person, just so we can check that you’re doing okay, tracking well, and that you’re happy and comfortable with the treatment.”
Tooth whitening is included as part of the Invisalign treatment at Everwell, so you will finish with straight, white teeth. If any edge bonding is needed to perfect the final result, that will also be discussed. Retainers are provided at the end of treatment to keep your new smile in place long-term.
Treatment length varies depending on complexity. “Some people can be done in as little as four months, other people can occasionally be as much as two years, but that is quite unusual. Most people will be done within twelve months,” says Dr Fraser.
A realistic estimate for your case will be given during the ClinCheck stage, once the full treatment plan has been mapped out.
You may have seen Invisalign or aligner treatment advertised at surprisingly low prices. Ali Doyle, who interviewed Dr Fraser, raised this directly: “There’s providers out there charging under £1,000 for comprehensive Invisalign, but it’s not comprehensive.”
Dr Fraser agreed. A properly planned Invisalign case involves multiple ClinCheck revisions, digital scanning, clinical review appointments, attachments, and a genuine commitment to achieving the right outcome. These things take time and expertise. A price point that seems too good to be true is usually a signal that something in the process has been cut short.
For Dr Fraser, the most rewarding part of Invisalign is the change in how patients feel about themselves. “It’s just people wanting to smile again. Knowing that people don’t mind having their photo taken — in fact they quite like it afterwards. It’s the biggest buzz to know that people go away feeling such a massive difference. To me it’s a huge thing when you see people hiding their smile in photos, and you know you can do something about that.”
