A precise, long-lasting restoration for teeth that need more than a filling but don’t yet require a full crown.
Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations used to repair teeth with moderate decay or damage. An inlay fits within the cusps of the tooth, similar to a filling. An onlay extends over one or more of the cusps, providing a larger area of coverage.
Both are made from durable materials, typically porcelain or composite, and are carefully crafted to match the shape and colour of your natural tooth. They offer a stronger, longer-lasting result than a standard filling for more significant areas of damage.

Your treatment will typically take two appointments. At the first, we prepare the tooth and take a precise impression. Your inlay or onlay is then made to your exact measurements. At the second appointment, we fit and bond it into place, adjusting the bite as needed for a comfortable, natural feel.
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, inlays and onlays can last many years, often longer than conventional fillings in the same area.
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort during the appointment. Some mild sensitivity afterwards is normal and usually settles within a few days.
