Tooth Extractions

When a tooth needs to be removed, we make the process as calm and comfortable as we possibly can.

Northampton Private Dentist

When is an extraction necessary?

We always try to save a natural tooth wherever possible. However, there are situations where an extraction is the right course of action: when a tooth is too severely decayed or damaged to restore, when infection cannot be resolved by other means, or when a tooth needs to be removed as part of an orthodontic treatment plan.

Your dentist will always explain clearly why an extraction is being recommended and discuss alternative options with you before proceeding.

What to expect

Extractions at Everwell Dental are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. You may be aware of some pressure and movement, but you should be comfortable throughout.

  • Local anaesthetic is applied before the procedure begins
  • The tooth is gently loosened and removed
  • You’ll receive clear aftercare instructions before you leave
  • The area typically heals within one to two weeks

After your extraction

We’ll give you full written aftercare instructions after your appointment. This usually includes advice on what to eat and drink, how to keep the area clean, and what to expect during healing. If you have any concerns afterwards, please don’t hesitate to call us.

With effective local anaesthetic, you shouldn’t feel any pain during the extraction. Some discomfort and swelling in the days following is normal and usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.

What can I eat after an extraction?

We recommend soft foods for the first day or two, avoiding very hot food and drinks and anything that might disturb the healing area. We’ll give you specific guidance after your appointment.
